Long Weekends Mean More Flying!

In a nice start to the weekend, on Friday night I got together with Dino, Nicole (and her friend EJ), Emma, Emmanuelle (and her guy) for drinks and just to shoot the breeze. It is always funny to me that I so much enjoy hanging out with the usual suspects while in New York, and when I'm back from Israel, I retroactively miss not having hung out with them while I was there). I left earlyish, since I knew I'd have to wake up for the early class at Streb on Saturday AM (never mind that Nicole, Emma and Dino had to be there as well!)
On Saturday morning, Thing 2 woke me up bright and early, so I decided to bake corn muffins prior to heading over to Streb. I had convinced the "dog-walker" to join me for a class, as well as Einat, who both works with me in the office, and does occassional babysitting for the Things, so we met the dog-walker downstairs, then Einat at Starbuck's and made our way over to Brooklyn.

The class was pretty full, but surprisingly, I didn't mind too much, since it was filled with people that I really like hanging with (ha, ha... get the pun?) I was a little distracted, with the Things, friends, videotaping, and all, and ended up just doing a few mod attempts ('cause they sure weren't mods!) before dusting off the flexus for catches. The flexus was looking decent, and Hal caught it twice! I almost made the flexi return, but got the bar w/only one hand.

Anyway, here are vids of Einat:

Labor Day
On Monday, the Things went off with their dad, and Marisa and I headed out with the dogs to Peter Gold's rig. Marisa wanted to experience flying with Peter, and I wanted to see whether I could figure out the tips that Peter had given me the last time I was out there.

It was a gorgeous day, and the drive out to the Hamptons was super-fast. We stopped for coffee at a place with a ridiculously long time, and still made it to the rig with time to spare.

After a few swings, I decided to get down to the business of the day, and work on the layout.

Here's one practice:

and here's the catch!

Still tons of room for improvement, and I suspect that I got a lot of help on lines, but considering that I haven't caught one in like 2 years, it's really nice to have it caught! And now that that's out of the way, it's time to perfect it.

So as to whether I feel like the class was worth the expense, I still don't know. If I can take what Peter said regarding both my swing and my layout, and continue applying it, (and if it makes me a better flyer, of course!) then yes, his suggestions are worth the expense, since they'll increase my rate of progress. Plus, there's a lot to be said for flying outside on a gorgeous sunny day!

And as the summer comes to it's unofficial end, I'm looking forward to the start of school, an organized schedule, and the classes that I signed up for at Streb. Although my body and mind were in dire need of an hiatus, I've felt the need to get on with things for a couple of weeks now, and an so relieved to finally be shifting into gear.
