Sore yet Satisfied

I decided to shake of my grumpy mood yesterday by training on static. I haven't been on the static trap since coming back from Israel, so it was long past due. So I put on my favorite playlist, and well, played. Great fun trying to see how things come together (or not, as the case may be). What I discovered was that I'm much stronger than last time I trained, not afraid to try out some positions that really intimidated me before, but that I have a while to go before I recreate any sense of fluidity. Also interesting was that the songs that most got me to be creative were not the ones I'm trying to put a routine to. What's that about? So anyway, I practiced until I felt my arms giving out, but all in all a great feeling being back up there again.

Then this morning, I did back to back fly classes. I'm committed to totally mastering the mod and whupping its ass!! So first I practiced my up and downs (going into an uprise then coming off on the back end) for a few turns. On one I managed to make it up three times! (Although the third was not the magnificent uprise that I would have liked) Then I threw the mod time after time after time in lines - very loose lines, so I didn't feel them dragging on the uprise (I think 6 or 7 turns!) For catches in the first class, I decided to switch gears and throw Manny my planche. Last time I did it with him, the return was effortless, and this one wasn't to shabby either:

I was still feeling good for the second class, and took the mod out. Basically that was all I did the second class - again, mod after mod after mod. Good thing I love this trick so much! This was one of my better attempts:

I then threw it to Randy in lines. Well, "threw it" is a bit of a misnomer -- I wouldn't "hep" with him there - sort of par for the course on my learning curve. (But annoying nonetheless)

After catch-time was over, I decided to play a little with the "blender" -- eventually I'd like to see this become a cutaway 540. Right now, it's a cutaway with as much spinning as I can do before hitting the mat. By golly, I'll become a spinner despite myself.

Anyway, here it is in all its glory! (Ha!):

So all in all, a good day at our lovely little rig in Brooklyn. Progress was definitely made, and I figure that if I'm having a rough day, following it with an awesome session the next time I show up isn't a bad way to go. Of course this means that Tuesday will probably suck!

Thanks to Leah for recording all the vids! I hope your hands are feeling better! (Leah's layout, by the way was looking lovely!) And I'm glad I decided to bring the camera... I've been "forgetting" it at home since I've had such a crappy stretch - but it's definitely a good learning tool.

So, sore and tired now. I'll hop into a hot shower and try to find one of those by-the-minute massage places that are open late.

Congrats to Dino and Katherine, btw, on their new addition.
