It was a weekend full of fun, sport, and even a little knitting.
That crazy shawl that I've been working on since before I went away to Costa Rica is going to be the death of me! But I'm still pulgging away at it, and managed to do four rows this weekend. That doesn't sound like much, but with each row being about 2,000 stitches long, it tends to take a ridiculously long time to get from row to row. SO I've been carrying it around everywhere, and whenever I get a moment,i try to knit a bit, which is what I did Friday night. I had decided to stay in and take it easy, because I knew that Saturday would be pretty crazy, and that I'd need to rest up...
Saturday morning, after a nice stroll with Fiji, little sis and her boy picked me up in their Beast (the biggest truck I've ever seen!), and we went off to Brooklyn for a day of bike riding.
We parked near Prospect Park, and then biked down to Coney Island, where the Mermaid Parade was being held. It was a beautiful ride, and lots of fun hanging out with the two of them (aside from a few mishaps...) but by the time we got there, all I had time to do was use the facilities, fill up on water, see a few mermaid, and then turn around for the ride back to Streb.
But Coney Island, and the ride down there were a lot of fun I definitely want to spend a day at Coney Island -- bike down, hang out, then bike back home.
Then it was in a speedy race to make it to Streb before my fly class started. I didn't quite make it (arrived 5 minutes late), but since I was one of 3 students in the class, it was okay, as I got plenty of turns in.
I've been getting higher in my swing lately, which is cool. I wish I had recorded the warm up swings to see how high I am... but am not comforable asking people to videotape me... I also did a kill/build, and was able to get as high as the board within a few swings, which was cool. Then it was on to my stealth practice...
That sick, twisted b/e whip that I've been practicing is showing a bit of improvement... but apparently not enough as I am now in a race with Dino to see who gets it first... I'm also taking baby steps on the cut/catch. But they are so tiny, that I might be the only one who can see them!
I left flight class early because I had a one on one static class with Bronwyn from Nimble Arts. She gave me some new moves to play with, and some transitions that I hadn't tried before. She also reminded me of a few exercises for me to practice, and corrected my technique. I liked taking a class again, and as much as I enjoy fiddling on my own, it was definitely good to get some instruction for a change.
Sunday saw me rollerblading down to the ferry to meet Marisa. We crossed over into NJ, and Oleg and Olgita picked us up and took us to the rock climbing gym for a belay certification class.
The belay certification was interesting, and it was cool belaying Marisa. I definitely hope to go climbing a few more times before heading to Israel. Apparently there is a bus that drops you off a block away from the Rock Climing gym, and it takes only 45 minutes from Port Authority. Not bad.
After the insanely intense weekend, it was great to go to sleep early on Sunday night
