Being Thankful

I'm spending Thanksgiving with friends, away from NYC, giant to-do list, and the myriad of possibilities of things to occupy my time.  Here, I have only knitting, socializing, reading, and apparently blogging. (Oh, and occasionally mediating minor arguments.)

So what a great opportunity to do a little review of the latest and greatest!

I've been plateauing - or insane, depending on your outlook.  (Einstein would say insane - doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome!) Working on the 540 a/k/a sk8rgrl, mod, and occasionally the layout.  After the show, I decided to mix it up a bit.  My flying hadn't been improving, and my tricks weren't anymore catchable.

On Jonah's advise, I started working the Uprise Shoot a/k/a Oh, Shoot! and and the Shooting Star a/k/a ass rocket.  I managed to catch both the same weekend I first learned them, which was cool, but of course, they still need work.
(ass rocket)

I put the ass rocket on hold, because I don't really love it, and continued working on Oh, Shoot!, which I was surprised that I actually enjoyed.  Maybe it's feeling like I'm really flying.

(Oh, Shoot!)

I've also done a bit of trampoline work with Brandon.  He figured out that I turn to my right.  Well, damn!  I've been turning to the left on the sk8rgrl.  No wonder it doesn't change!  So I've tried the trick a bunch of times now, to my right.  Still not ready for the catch, but it's looking pretty decent.

(sk8rgrl)

I've also been flirting with the cutaway half, a/k/a pinwheel.  It's fun to play with, but progress has been a little sporadic.  (But it's only been a week?!) I'm hoping, though, that it's catchable really soon.

(pinwheel!)

Oh, and I revisited the layout.  It's looking pretty good, I'm told, but alas, I have no video footing to confirm that.

That's it (!) for flying.  Trying different tricks, or the same tricks in a different way seems to be working.  So do my daily v-ups (morning and night).  Maybe even silks class, which I've been taking with the lovely Marisa and Emma (when she can make it), and taught by Cody.  Hopefully it's positively impacting the flying, because as an end in and of itself, the going is pretty slow, though fun.

And in the spirit of the holiday and giving thanks, I'd like to say that I'm thankful to have a body that allows me to fly, flip and spin, thankful that it's challenging, and for the satisfaction of the occasional accomplishment, thankful for my family -my parents and my sisters - and particularly Thing 1 and Thing 2, who are sometimes challenging, sometimes frustrating, but most often delightful, and always loved, for my friends, who I'm blessed to have, never having thought that I'd have so many good friends from so many parts of my life.

Happy Turkey Day!
