T minus 2

Two days until the NYC Tri. I think I'm more excited about this one than any of my races thus far. Maybe because in many ways the NYC Tri was the impetus that got me motivated to tri. Yes, watching IM Kona all those years ago planted the seed of an idea in my mind, but seeing this race practically right outside my front door is what motivated me to try my hand at the swum bike run trifecta.

This morning I received some not so good news- my daughter, visiting family in Israel, was taken to the hospital. During those few minutes of talking to the panicked, before talking to the calm, I had rearranged this weekend in my mind. Deferring until next year and catching the next flight out to be with my child. Fortunately, she is fine- suffering the insult of being poked and prodded, and with a bit of a cold or the flu, but really no worse for the wear. A great opportunity for me to impress upon her the importance of a RoadID (and for once, without argument!). By the time I join my children in Israel on Tuesday, following the tri that I won't have to defer, she'll be back to her usual self, and ready for the kind of adventures I'd like her to experience instead of those involving hospitals and doctors.

Once I realized that all was well, I allowed my legs to lead me and the dogs down to the Hudson River, and found myself at the swim start (yes, I was walking the dogs while dealing with the situation in Israel. Motion = sanity for me). Crisis averted, it was time for some prerace excitement.

Here's swim start all set up:
And here's swim finish:
And here's the Yellow transition area- there are 2 transitions: Yellow and Red. I'm in Yellow- where the first half of the waves are.
And one more- Bike in. There are cute signs at the Bike in and run in from the swim entrances, like 1 down 2 to go, or Almost done! There were also signs intended for spectators regarding the best places to cheer.
And now I'm at T minus 11.5 hours. Got to get my bike to transition and head to bed. Lots more to say that will have to wait.
