Tuesday

We were quite the sight this morning, the Things on their bikes, me on rollerblades, and Fiji on leash... dropped Thing 2 off at school, then crossed the park to Thing 1's school to drop off muffins (blueberry-banana-oatmeal... yum! though they could have used a nutty crunch) then through the park again and to camp for Thing 1. Poor kid! She was wiped out when she got there. The good thing is that after that experience, the bike commute to camp (only 1 mile instead of close to 3) will seem like a cakewalk to her.

As a reward, Fiji got a cup of ice water from Starbuck's. He really loved the ice!

Same thing coming back when I picked them up, but mostly downhill, so pretty easy for the Things. Fiji loved it, and was pulling me on my blades most of the way.

Since I haven't been to the gym since school has been out for Thing 1, I try to get my exercise wherever I can fit it in, so that meant biking to Streb (being pulled by a dog doesn't count as exercise in my book!) The bridge gets a little easier each time, and I shave a few minutes off the commute as well. Right now taking the subway or the bike take the same amount of time, but it would be great to get even faster on the bike.

Anyway, at Streb did a few swings to warm up, then the turnaround/plant, and I don't know if the turnaround is getting better, though I think it is, but I am pretty sure the swing is improving, especially when I work it. Worked on the turnaround/clap/reverse suicide (a/k/a "the Galit")a few times, with increasing success each time, although I still don't do an audible clap.

Then it was on to the ever elusive cut/catch. It's still elusive. At least today I attempted to straddle. But I still wouldn't take my hands off the bar to properly complete the trick. Oh well, there is always next Tuesday! Fran also promised to show me an exercise on the static bar to help with the trick.

As for the front-end uprise, well, there is really nothing to say. It was miserable.
But it was fun flying with the Tuesday crew. It felt like I hadn't seen Marisa in ages. Maybe because I hadn't flown with herin my last two classes, and I'm used to her being in my class. I didn't even protest too much when she checked the biners and inquired as to the trick I was throwing. Huh. I must have missed her!

Elena was as focused as usual... got the cut/catch tonight! Renee was sweet about sharing her camera with me, and filming my swings. She has gotten a lot stronger and tighter in her swing! Allegra has really made the front end uprise her thing!
It was also nice to see Denise and Lucci, who I haven't seen in a while. The puppy and I had a little scuffle, but all in good fun, of course.

Static was the usual depressing experience. I am way, way too tired on Tuesdays to be much good. Plus my back is still a little achy from my near-death Hocks (Hox) Saulto experience. But I keep doing it. Because there aren't enough hours in a day, or days in the week. And it keeps it familiar, so that when I am fresh, I actually get a lot done.

Also spoke with Bobby about the catch class. I am so, so, so excited to finally get some catching instruction. Dino and Manny will be teaching, so I know I'll be in good hands. I'll do 2 classes per week before I go to Israel. I think that after the Things leave with their dad, I'll just move in to Streb to save myself the commute!

Oh, and for the fun of it, two quotes. The first is for Monte, and the second for aerialists.

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
-Steven Weinberg, physicist

"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you always long to return."
Leonardo da Vinci

Egg-cellent quotes! And, no, I still can't hear you clap. xoxo
