I woke up this morning at the ungodly hour of 6:30 AM. (Ungodly because it was a Sunday, and because the Things were not around to waken me, and in particular because I couldn't settle yesterday until about 2:00 AM) Before I went to bed last night, I signed up for the early class at TSNY this morning. I knew that I'd be cooped up inside all day working, and needed to get some flying time in to charge my emotional reserves sufficiently to be able to deal with it.
After the last few classes at TSNY, I kind of wondered whether it would be an exercise in frustration, or the joyous flying experience that I really craved today...
I biked down there, and the ride was gorgeous. The sky was blue, and it was still relatively cool out. When I got to TSNY, I was very pleasantly surprised that half the class were very regular fliers -- Anne, Ross and Brian H. were there, in addition to four newbies.
[sorry there's no vid-my battery died yesterday, and I couldn't locate my charger.]
Well, I got to swing a few times, do my mod several times (yes, it is now in my bones, finally!), try a few 540s (the first was the best, but I have to remember to bring my arms in), and throw a couple of b/e tricks at catch time. Dave caught both my splits and my planche, and I managed a return of the planche as well. (For those wondering, I got 11 turns up. Not too shabby!)
Maybe it was the weather, or being outside, or desperately needing to fly today, but it was really an awesome class! I flew tighter than I have in a while, and really, really enjoyed having so much time during the swing to do what I needed to do. I was able to really think about what I was doing while I was in the air, and take what Jonathon told me on the ground and apply it my next time up!
It was well and truly a lovely morning of trapeze at TSNY. I think that the trick is looking for empty or near-empty classes there, but I hope to find another one or two before I head to Israel, and recapture the joy of flying that I felt today.
It was also nice seeing Brian again, and JC, who I haven't seen in ages and ages.
AFter the class was over, I biked back uptown with Brian. It was nice biking with someone else, for a change. Usually I do the ride solo, which is pleasant in a zen/meditative sort of way, but having someone to chat with.
Anyway, it's off to work now. I think that flying first was vital. I wish I could do it every morning. Ha! Wouldn't that be great? A 6:30 AM fly class! And who knows? Maybe I'll get off in time to go to yoga tonight!
